Using Free Apps for Reading Comprehension

Story Spine is a free app that can be used to create a story or retell a story. It was created by a teacher to help students with story telling skills.  We used the Story Spine App to do a retelling of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss.  I created a paper template that looks like the app.  This helped my students know exactly what to type when they used the ipods. We then copied and pasted the generated story retelling to the free app...

Bill Atkins Photo Card Lite
This app is a post card but the only app we have on our ipods that could post this much text so that we would not lose our retelling. We then took screen shots of the photo card and put them on our kidblogs with our photos made with ...

The Lorax App which is a fun app where you can stach yourself and then save the picture.  I was very pleased with the retelling my students did of the story The Lorax.  This story spine app could be used for any Story Retelling.  (click on story retelling for a paper template to have students fill out before typing on the app) It could also be used for Story Writing (click on story writing for a paper template to have students fill out before typing on the app).

I hope this gives you some ideas for Story Spine.  I would love to hear your ideas.  If you use any of these apps in your classroom please post all your great ideas below in the comments. How do you use apps to help with Reading Comprehension?

  1. Thank you for sharing. I am interested in downloading the paper copies, but google docs needs permission to access. Could you change your setting so that I can access them? Thanks!
