Two days back under my belt, Happy New Year at school, kids needing a toast?

I have to admit I was a bit unexcited to go back to school after Christmas Vacation, but the TWO days actually went really good. Kids behavior was amazing as they had been getting a little restless before break.  Now I have 2 more days under my belt.  Kids were definitely excited to be back as some rushed into class Thursday morning to hug me, tell me how much they missed me, and that they were so glad to be back in school.  I think this only happens in Elementary School.

We teach Steven Covey's Seven Habits to our kids and what better way to bring in the New Year then by "Beginning with the End in Mind." If you happen to know these habits you know what I'm talking about. I read the chapter from the book about a cute little bear named Goob who had a plan, made a list and saved his money for some things he wanted to buy.  Then we had a good discussion of making our goals that we would like to accomplish by end of Second Grade. Students spent time writing resolutions using my FREE templates on TPT. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the bulletin board so you could see what it looked like.

Since my writing time is right before lunch which is at 12:00, I told the kids we were going to have a countdown to the new year in school and it would be to 12:00 noon since we don't have Midnight.  Right away students thought we needed a toast. Of course I never thought of doing anything like that but I guess it would have been fun.  There's always next year.

I would have loved to do confetti but I had done so many messy things with Elf on the Shelf I knew the janitors would have killed me if they had more to clean after break.  I was also thinking FREE sounded good after all the money I spent during Christmas Break. So we used this video the last five minutes of their writing and they loved it as you can see from the picture above.

How did you or how will you bring in the School NEW YEAR?  Would love for you to share.

Don't forget to head on over and sign up for the Teacher's Notebook giveaway.  I just opened a Clip Art Teachers notebook store right before heading back to school. It's actually just paper and borders right now. You can check out the link here if you want, but definitely sign up for the Sweepstakes. I know I'll be signing up every day.

  1. What a fabulous idea! Thanks for finding me... Glad you did! I want to do resolutions with my kids, but I've been busy doing assessments for report cards and couldn't come up with anything creative. Kudos to you!
