Bring Math Manipulatives to Life with Talking Apps

It's another BE APPY Monday.  We love using apps to create in my classroom. Students had fun bringing math manipulatives to life with these "Talking Apps." Most of you have probably heard of these app but hopefully you will get some new ideas on how students can use them to bring math to life.

Students love using the talking apps Chatterpix Kids and YakIt Kids. We made little movies and saved each one to the camera roll and then combined them with the iMovie app. We made these videos to start out our units of study on place value, money, and geometric shapes. This helps students get a better grasp on the concepts as they are learning lots of things to create their videos. Both of these apps are very easy to use and make some really cute talking manipulatives.

When studying money we also used this book called Let's Find Out About Money. We read and discussed the book and then watched this video that goes along great with the book The Birth of a Coin from the United States Mint Website for Kids.

Students were given templates to fill out to use as their scripts when recording their videos. You can find the templates in my new set below.
